Art 9 Ms. Blundon Illustrated Text
Throughout history illustrations have accompanied the written word, starting with the ancient tradition of illuminated letters associated with scripts hand. Creating art is often used to represent text in stories, poems, business names, etc. For this project you will be building on your illustrated name skills by illustrating a quote, song lyric, or other phrase that has meaning to you.
Start date: October 24th
Due date: November 7th
Prompt: Create an illustrated a quote, song lyric, or other phrase that has meaning to you.
Details: In this assignment your creativity will be revealed on how you can create your own original idea using text and visual art elements to create a piece that illustrates the text.
Materials: Your choice from the dry drawing materials offered to you in class (pencil, pen, permanent marker, markers, colored pencils). Or watercolor, watercolor pencils. Other materials can be requested from Ms. Blundon
Expectations:
· Brainstorming/Planning evidence in sketchbook
· Text is used in a unique way
· Original design and idea
· Illustration connects to the artist, text is meaningful to you
· Page is used fully
· Materials are used appropriately
· Finished and complete for beginning of class on the day it is due
Steps
1. Brainstorm phrases that have had an impact on your life (quotes, sentences from books, song lyrics, etc).
2. Make a few sketches (quick drawings) of your idea – try to change composition or style (make sure this is saved, it should be in your sketchbook which will be handed in with the final)
3. Choose the best sketch and begin creating your final piece
4. Use class time to finish your final piece
5. Have ready for the due date.
