Artists Observe Unit
Final Project
Goal: To show mastery in observational drawing
Students should chose to grow their observational skills by choosing one subject from our boot camp to create one piece showing their mastery. All final pieces should be drawn from observation (not from pictures) and should try to be realistic.
Subject Options:
· Still life
A drawing of one or more chosen object
· Figure
A drawing of a person; face, body, or partial
· Architecture
A drawing of a building; indoor or outdoors
Material Options:
· Drawing Pencils
· Charcoal
· Ink (Permanent Pens)
Students should choose one subject option and one materials option.
Grading will be based on the rubric attached, I have summarized below.
I can develop my craft:
Students should gain skills in a new or familiar material with a high level of craftspersonship
I can engage and persist
Students should have consistent focus on art making and generate solutions to problems when challenged
I can observe and envision
Students should carefully observe the world around them, making connections while creating unique artwork with a focus on composition and subject matter.
I can express
Students should express an idea, feeling, or personal meaning in the artwork
I can stretch and explore
Students should stretch outside of their comfort zone with material and subject while turning mistakes into opportunities
I can reflect
Students should describe, reflect upon, and formally analyze artwork and the creative process in writing and critiques
Final artwork and artist statement is due:
A block = 10/1 E&G blocks = 10/2
